Wrestling fans... Acknowledge him! Roman Reigns has been on the run to remember that the Tribal chief and head of the table is the current WWE undisputed universal champion, and his reign is currently 747+ days (as of me writing this.) To retain that title, Roman has defeated some of the biggest names in wrestling. Men like Brock Lesner (multiple times), John Cena, Drew McIntyre, Jey Uso, Rey Mysterio, Kevin Owens, Edge, Daniel Bryan, Cesaro, and Finn Balor, defeated Big E at Survivor Series, Riddle, and Braun Stroman. These men are some of the biggest names in wrestling, and most of them will have a seat in the Hall of Fame when their time comes (excluding Edge because he is already in the Hall of Fame.) To some, the fact that Roman is on a part-time schedule has ruined his title reign, but we should be talking about how impressive his matches are. The classic Roman, Edge, and Daniel Bryan put on at Wrestlemania is a perfect example of how exciting and powerful his matches are. Fans got treated to a hard-hitting, drama-filled matchup as the two challengers threw everything at the Tribal Chief, and all three men had a chance to shine and dominate at points in the matchup.
The most important part of a wrestling match is the ending; a good finish can make or break an entire match. The conclusion to this is slowly becoming an iconic image; Roman Reigns pinning BOTH of his challengers has become an image that defines his title reign. Roman did precisely what he promised! Smash people, win, and leave. Another fantastic match in Roman Reign's title run is Roman versus Daniel Bryan; This one is special. It was on Smackdown when we saw Championship vs. career. If Roman lost, his title reign was over, but on the other side, if Daniel Bryan lost, his career in WWE would be OVER! The result was the best match the Smackdown audience has seen in over 20 years. Fans watched anxiously as Daniel Bryan fought for his life! Each striker is more brutal than the last, bringing the fight to Roman Reigns as nobody else has! The fans were on the edge of their seats, wondering when and how it would end. The match went on for 27 minutes as everyone watching got heart-stopping near falls and shocking spots, all culminating in a heartbreaking finish when Roman Reigns locked in a guillotine submission and choked Daniel Bryan out, effectively ENDING the career of one of WWE's biggest stars. I could talk about so many title matches in Roman Reigns' library of matches, but they all end the same way; The Tribal Chief on top after an emotional encounter. His feuds are a crucial part of his title reign; as I mentioned, his feud with Daniel Bryan was legendary, with Bryan making him tap out several times in sporadic non-match encounters. This rivalry was one of the rare times Roman seemed in trouble or could be defeated. Roman Reigns' feud against John Cena established him as one of the BEST top guys WWE had ever seen when he defeated Cena in the title match.
When his rivalry with Kevin Owens was a battle of styles, the resilient babyface had to work for everything on the independent scene to get a shot in the WWE against the man whose family is wrestling royalty in Roman Reigns. Kevin Owens was a thorn in Roman Reigns' side for months! No matter how hard Kevin Owens got hit, he got right back up and charged at Roman! The battles Roman had with Rey Mysterio always entertained everyone and helped add another Hall Of Famer to his impeccable resume of successful title defenses. The feud with his cousin Jey Uso was instrumental in creating the evil Roman Reigns we know today; destroying his own family and forcing him to bow to his rule made the fans hate Roman more than ever. Once he and Jey finished their rivalry, Jey would quickly submit to his cousin and fall in line. That is when Roman created his legendary stable, The bloodline featuring his real cousins Jimmy and Jey Uso and Solo Sikoa, plus iconic wrestling manager Paul Heyman made this one of the most dangerous stables in pro wrestling history. The biggest threat Roman has faced in his 747 days as champ was Brock Lesner! The beast incarnate set his sights on Roman Reigns. The pair had many hard-hitting battles for the Championship; at Wrestlemania, when Roman defeated Brock, that was for BOTH the WWE Championship Lesner held and the Universal Championship, which belonged to Roman Reigns. Despite injuring the arm of Roman in their Wrestlemania match, Lesner was unable to defeat the Tribal Chief, and on that historic night, Roman Reigns became a unified champion! Something not always seen in wrestling. Following that match at Wrestlemania, Lesner and Roman continued their war at Summerslam in a Last Man Standing match. This match did two things for Roman; One, it proved that he is better than Brock Lesner once and for all, and two proved how tough our Tribal Chief truly is. Reigns took a brutal beating all match long, surviving trips to suplex city, F5s, and nasty shots to the body and face but kept going. He gave recipes to Brock every chance he got, and Roman did something that no other star can say! he kept the beast down for a ten count, thus adding another legendary notch to his already impressive resume!
Roman is in GOD mode now; he's still champ because he is firing on all cylinders. He has fans in the palm of his hand and reacts to everything he does when he demands to acknowledge they worship him. When he commands them to put their ones up, the crowd quickly raises a single finger, showing Reigns the respect he deserves. He is in such high demand that the announcement of when he will appear garners millions of fans flocking to their TV to watch what he has to say and who will be brave enough to challenge him. You can argue WWE has made some mistakes in making Romans title run so long, but I'll argue it's perfect the way it is! Roman is the big bad. He won't go down easy and has an army at his disposal! He is the wrestling world's version of Thanos, and he has all the infinity stones, so the question is, who will be our Iron Man? who can step up to a GOD and survive? That's why fans tune in every week. They want to see who can stop him, buy the pay-per-views to watch, and see if someone can make history! Roman Reigns is a huge, cocky, and powerful man who will let you know why he thinks he's the best and will choke out anyone who steps up to him, so you want to see him go down; it's the thrill of the case that captivates us. Roman talks like a champion, dress like a world champion and behaves like a champion. He is everything WWE looks for in a top guy and has only helped the title's prestige. He has not been pinned or submitted in over 1000 days! Whoever is the man that takes those titles off of Roman will be a made man and turned into a megastar! Whoever does it will be dethroning one of the greatest champions in wrestling history! In my opinion, we are watching history unfold. This title reign is unlike any other before it and may never be replicated. The Tribal Chief has defeated top-tier competition, created new stars, and captivated the entire wrestling world weekly. This run has everything you need to consider a Championship reign special, a long title reign, impressive wins over top-level talent, and fantastic promos. In my opinion, Roman Reigns has one of the greatest champions in wrestling history and has the best Championship run WWE has seen in the last 20 years.
